“soundsuits” series by Nick Cave

Chicago artist Nick Cave is currently showing at the Fowler Museum. We got a chance to interview him last year. Nick transforms found objects into what he calls “Soundsuits”.  These suits are not just sculptural works but meant to be worn.  Imagine wearing one of these to the next costume party you attend? Performers inside the suits emit noises, hence the title “Soundsuits”.  The above image reminds me of our BD shirt: Explosion.  Apparently Cave, an Alvin-Ailey trained dancer, plans to eventually have a world-traveling show with 90 Soundsuit-creatures.

Sin-Eater Illustrates Ancient-Looking Visions Of Unearthly Beasts And The Dark Arts

Sin-Eater is a UK-based artist who draws murky scenes of ancient beasts and the dark arts. Like fable illustrations or tarot cards, his works are replete with eerie-yet-powerful symbols, such as the moon in various phases, leaking hourglasses, human skulls, and obscure runes hidden amidst fog and fur. His intricate linework and grimly religious imagery recall the works of Albrecht Dürer, one of Sin-Eater’s influencers; in a similar style to Dürer’s 1513 engraving “Knight, Death, and the Devil,” for example, Sin-Eater depicts his own esoteric, dream-like sequences wherein the underworld seeps through the surface of the earth, manifesting in visions of twisted forests and unearthly beings.  Source: beautifuldecay

Paintings by Rafael Sottolichio

Rafael Sottolichio  is a Canadian painter. Based in Quebec,  Rafael Sottolichio creates portraits that visualize hallucinatory experiences — whether in a dream state or otherwise. His characters appear to float through space, unconscious, donning goggles that obscure their eyes. We see them dreaming from the outside, though sometimes pieces of their visions seem to leak out into the painting as fantasy characters and abstract swirls of color surround the sleepers. Take a look at some of Sottolichio’s work below.

Dreamy and surreal illustrations by Jie Ma

Jie Ma is a digital artist from Shangai, China. He is currently working as Concept Designer and Art Director in the industry of Film and Video Games. Along with his professional career, he has been developing a more personal and intimate work. Without a specific pattern, he has created an own, intriguing and surreal universe. Jie Ma doesn’t give any information about it, just only through his mysterious illustrations. With a perfect sense of composition and an exquisite taste for architecture of large proportions, Jie Ma illustrations get us into an oniric world about a primarily uninhabited society living surrounded by huge scale libraries and floating structures.
